Who is Gri?
Belgium artist based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam since 2007, I started my journey in the advertising and tv industry before moving to the real-time world working in VR and AR interactive application and 3D animation for safety training and simulation.
Passionate about digital sculpting and 3D printing, I'm also producing and offering creative direction and 3d printing services for original designs and custom client projects via Shōjō Studio
In my current role at a Japanese-owned studio in Vietnam, I lead a team of 3D artists and developers, providing both artistic and technical direction.
I manage project planning and task delegation, oversee production quality, support hiring decisions, and actively contribute hands-on when needed.
I bring deep technical expertise with tools like Blender, 3DsMax, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Unity, and Unreal Engine 5, along with a strong foundation in team leadership, workflow optimization, and creative supervision.
I’m especially interested in applying these skills to projects that blend physical and digital worlds in public and cultural spaces, such as projection mapping, immersive environments, and interactive exhibitions.
Where I've Been
Studio Wa Vietnam specializes in the creation of real-time interactive application, augmented
and virtual reality applications and 3D animation for safety training and simulation.
My role is to provide artistic leadership and lead the creative team to
drive the overall vision of the projects
Other of my responsibilities within the studio:
- Projects planning and scheduling
- Assign, monitor and track daily tasks and progress from the team
- Communication and updates to the management team in Japan
- Implement new workflow, softwares and techniques and keep up with new creative technologies as well as analyze new trends
- Review and approve the work of the creative team and ensure they reach the expected artistic quality
- To be consulted and take part in the hiring of new team members.
- As one of the senior artist of the studio, I'm also hands-on the job when needed.
- Research and keep up with new creative technologies and trends
- Skills assessment of the creative team to prepare and provide adequate and continuous training
After working mostly for the advertising industry, I have been focusing to 3D printing for the past 5 years to bring digital models into physical forms.
- Monitor daily production activities for both in-house creations and client orders
- Manage inventory for recurring sale items and raw materials (filament, resins, 3d printers parts,...) minimizing downtime and production delays
- Prepare & optimize 3d models for printing (Supports, hollowing,...)
- 3D printing technology expertise (FDM, SLA)
- Knowledge of a wide range of software such as Zbrush,3DsMax, Blender, Adobe Suite, Lychee, Cura,..
- Skilled at explaining project requirements and material considerations to clients, helping them make informed decisions for their specific needs.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to 3D printers and other equipment to ensure continuous operation
- Conducted comprehensive research for the implementation of a turnkey VR arena solution for a prospective Family Entertainment Center (FEC) in Ho Chi Minh City.
- Identified and evaluated all necessary components for creating a custom VR arena, ensuring optimal performance and customer engagement.
- Investigated a wide range of arcade games and immersive experiences to diversify the entertainment offerings within the FEC.
- Researched various cashless card system providers, focusing on seamless integration and user experience.
- Coordinated and led calls with vendors and solution providers, facilitating detailed presentations and discussions.
- Performed in-depth comparisons of vendors, solutions, and quotations to identify the most cost-effective and reliable options for the project.
